Mpumalanga Missions Primary School (MMPS)
MMPS is a school for the Orphaned and Vulnerable children (OVC) of Siteki and Moyeni. It touch your heart to see these children eager to learn and to please. We find older children all the time with no education, many of the older children has learning disabilities. Due to many reasons including no learning foundation, poverty, to many responsibilities and also malnutrition. We encourage parents to enroll their children young so that they have a better learning foundation. We can also correct some of the malnutrition when they are younger.

The school year for 2009 started on January 27. Many children showed up, but we were able to enroll only 300 children. We had to send some of the children home, due to a lack of classroom space and teachers. We are up to Grade 6 and hope to expand our facilities and staff.

Many of these children show up dressed in rags, no shoes, dirty and in bad health. To ensure proper education, nutrition, clothing, shoes, hygiene is a overwhelming task. Accomplishing this will greatly improve not only their chances of survival, but will open doors to future opportunities that are simply out of reach of the vast majority of children.

The feeding scheme provide breakfast and lunch for the children coming to school. The children receive 2 meals 5 days a week and also holidays. For some of the children these are the only meals they get. Providing nutritious meals on a small budget on wooden stoves in 2 big pots are always a challenge. We do receive some food from WFP, like corn meal, cornsoy, rice, chickpeas and sometimes beans. But the feeding scheme needs to buy fresh produce and spices.

Many of the children are also in bad health and need medication and health care. There are just no one at home to ensure that these children receive care. Scabies, infections, fewer, open wounds, sores, infected scalps and bad over all health are common every day and need to be treated. Some of the children are positive for HIV/AIDS/TB, most of them does not get treatment for it.

We are also involved with 3 other pre-schools. One run by the community in Moyeni, one in Sisataweni, a community about
20 km from Seteki. The pre-school at
Lumphopeko just received a fence and some playsets from World Vision.
